Buhari Has Okayed APC’s Report on Restructuring – Osoba
Former governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed the report on restructuring Nigeria presented to him by the Governor Nasir el-Rufai-led All Progressives Congress (APC) committee.
Buhari had not been categorical on the issue of restructuring of the country, predicating his stance on the ground that its advocates were not forthcoming on what the details entail for the polity, The Guardian reports.
But the president’s eventual acceptance of the idea was disclosed to State House correspondents yesterday by the former governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, after he met with Buhari at the Presidential Villa.
Osoba pleaded with Nigerians agitating for restructuring to be patient with the APC administration, as steps were underway to facilitate legislation by the National Assembly to legalise the relevant aspects of the report.
The veteran journalist, who was at the Villa to present his book, Battlelines: Adventures in Journalism and Politics, to Buhari, disclosed that the APC also had restructuring as devolution of powers, from the federal government to states, enshrined in its manifesto.
His words: “I am part of the presidency because the president is our president. I can tell you, APC put devolution of power and true federalism in our manifesto, and we have moved far from there to where a committee was set up, headed by the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai.
